Metro Animal Services encourages all pet and livestock owners to be prepared for disasters such as floods, fires, and earthquakes. Planning ahead can save lives.
For Pets
Before a Disaster:

ID & Microchip: Keep ID tags and licenses current; consider microchipping.

Training: Train pets to enter carriers or respond to recall commands.

Secure Housing: Place cages/tanks on low, stable surfaces; secure latches.

Pet First Aid Kit: Include bandages, scissors, peroxide, meds, etc.

Neighbor Plan: Share emergency contacts and coordinate care.
During/After a Disaster:

Evacuation: Most shelters don't allow pets—plan for pet-friendly options.

If Left Behind (Not Advised): Leave food/water, and a visible note with pet details. Never cage or tie up pets.

Lost Pets: Call MAS at (307) 235-8398. Post flyers and search regularly.

Found Pets: Report to MAS. Avoid handling sick/injured animals.
Pet Disaster Kit Checklist:
Crate, leash, 7-day food/water supply, bowls, meds, vet records, litter box, manual can opener, trash bags, emergency contacts.
For Livestock
Before a Disaster:

Fire Safety: Clear brush, clean gutters, secure hay and fuel.

Identification: Use branding, tattoos, or microchips; keep records safe.

Evacuation Plan: Assign roles, post plans, and keep access open.

Disaster Kit: Include ladders, buckets, hose, halters, flashlight, and radio.
During/After a Disaster:

Fires: Don’t enter burning buildings. Prep trailers, open gates, move animals.

Earthquakes: Check for damage, comfort animals, and seek help if injured.

Floods: Relocate animals/feed to high ground early.

If Left Behind: Leave food, water, and a posted notice with animal count. Never confine.
